About the MediaNight

The MediaNight is one of the highlights in the academic calendar at HdM. Each semester, students from across all study programmes present their semester and final projects on campus.

From apps and games to film productions, interactive installations, product designs and software solutions, the event showcases the diversity and interdisciplinary nature of the university.

The programme includes:

  • Live presentations and exhibitions of student work
  • Film screenings in the Audimax
  • The Student’s Choice MediaNight Award, honouring a particularly inspiring, innovative or sustainable project
  • Music and accompanying programme, including live acts and broadcasts by the campus radio HORADS

"Mevera" – Making fashion digitally tangible

The project “Mevera” started with a simple yet relevant question:
How can clothing be tried on online?

Online shopping still differs significantly from the in-store experience. Trying on garments, assessing the fit and immediately seeing whether an item suits you is difficult to replicate digitally. As a result, customers often order multiple sizes and return unwanted items.

“Mevera” addresses this issue by making fashion digitally tangible. Based on individual body measurements, users can create a realistic 3D avatar. Clothing can then be virtually tried on, with the system indicating where a garment fits well or may be too tight or too loose. In addition, users receive a precise size recommendation.

The concept aims to help customers find the right fit more efficiently, reduce unnecessary returns and contribute to a more sustainable form of online shopping.

A holistic project approach

In addition to the technological solution, the project was accompanied by a clearly developed corporate identity and a targeted social media campaign. This ensured that the idea was not only technically convincing but also communicable and recognisable.

The project team consisted of:
Carolin Barth, Laila Jerusalem, Sila Kici, Nicola Markert, Dina Olorunmaye and Anna Wirges.
The project was supervised by Prof. Dr. Joachim Charzinski.

“What I enjoyed most about the project was its interdisciplinary nature. It was incredibly interesting to gain insights into other areas and learn from them while working independently on Mevera’s marketing. Although working largely on our own was challenging at times, it also gave me the opportunity to learn the most and develop new skills.”

Recognition by the student community

Winning the Student’s Choice Award at the MediaNight is a significant achievement. Out of more than 100 submissions presented during the evening, “Mevera” was selected by fellow students as the most inspiring project.

“Presenting our project at the MediaNight was a very special and emotional moment, as we were able to share the results of months of work and receive direct feedback from visitors. Winning the award was the highlight of the evening and a wonderful confirmation that the dedication and teamwork behind our project had truly paid off.”

Sila Kici, student Social Media Marketing & Management
