Learn how to create engaging content, build strong communities, and analyse data
In the English-taught Bachelor’s programme Social Media Marketing & Management, you will gain the skills to shape the digital world – from content creation and online community building to data-driven strategy and marketing.
You will learn to create engaging content, analyse data, and use AI tools to strengthen a company’s online presence. At the same time, you will develop business and media management skills that prepare you for a wide range of careers across industries.
A focus on business, media, and AI in practice
This programme is structured around three core areas: business, media, and AI tools. You focus on marketing strategy and management, develop practical skills in media design, production, and storytelling, and learn how AI supports content creation, data analysis, audience targeting, and campaign optimisation.
In addition, you will strengthen your language skills in English or German, depending on your native language. Soft skills modules support your personal and professional development and prepare you for the evolving world of work.

- Duration: 7 semester (3.5 years)
- B.A. qualification awarded upon accumulation of 210 credit points (ECTS)
- Internship included in the 5th semester
- Optional: a semester abroad is possible after completing your foundational studies
Semester 1 + 2
In the first two semesters (Year 1), you will be introduced to various aspects of social media marketing and management. You will build a solid foundation in business, media production, media design, law, and AI, which will be progressively developed throughout the programme.
Assessment is primarily through formal written examinations at the end of each semester. Additionally, depending on your native language, you will take a language course in either German or English.
Semester 3 + 4
In the third and fourth semesters (Year 2), you will deepen your knowledge of social media marketing and management through more advanced, practice-oriented courses. You will gain hands-on experience by managing the programme’s own social media newsroom and conducting an applied research project in the field of social media marketing.
Assessment during this phase combines formal written examinations with project-based work.
Semester 5 (Internship)
The fifth semester is dedicated to a mandatory full-time internship in which you apply your skills in a real-world professional setting. Over 6 months you will gain hands-on experience by working at a company of your choice, either in Germany or abroad. This allows you to explore different career paths, refine your interests, and gain valuable industry insight.
The internship strengthens key professional skills such as communication, teamwork, and project management, and supports your preparation for the final phase of the programme. It helps you define the projects you want to pursue in your final semesters and develop the topic for your bachelor’s thesis. Throughout the internship, you will receive guidance and support from the university.
Semester 6 + 7
In the sixth and seventh semesters, you will engage in compulsory elective modules through exciting, real-world projects. Each semester offers a diverse selection of projects, many of which are conducted in collaboration with external partners, such as companies or social institutions. You will work alongside students from other bachelor's degree programmes, fostering interdisciplinary learning. Projects can be completed in German, English, or both, depending on your preference. Assessment is primarly based on the project work you submit.
In the final semester, you will also write your bachelor’s thesis, an independent research or practice-oriented project in the field of social media marketing and management. The thesis allows you to deepen your expertise and conclude your studies with a final colloquium.
