Hochschule der Medien, University of Applied Sciences

Hochschule der Medien (HdM) is a public University of Applied Sciences with a strong focus on practical, hands-on education. Founded in 2001, HdM offers a broad spectrum of media-related disciplines: from technology and informatics to design, business and information science. With around 30 accredited Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, HdM provides a dynamic learning environment that prepares future professionals for the media landscape of tomorrow.

Location

A connected campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen

All lectures, services and facilities are located on one shared campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. The HdM campus consists of several modern buildings within short walking distance, creating a compact and lively university environment.

The campus is about 15 minutes from Stuttgart Central Station by public transport. It is located in a district with residential areas and green spaces nearby, offering a good balance between city access and a relaxed study life.

Main academic building

This building includes lecture halls, seminar rooms, faculty offices, the cafeteria, and media labs such as TV, radio, sound, animation, and virtual reality studios.

The "Zitronenschnitz" houses the library, HdM´s biggest lecture hall, and seminar rooms. This is also where the Social Media Marketing & Management programme is located.

Cube (Würfel)

The "Würfel" offers additional seminar rooms, learning and work areas. Furthermore, this building has won several architectural awards.

The modular buildings provide students with seminar rooms, working areas, and important organisational contact points such as the VS, examination administration and the study office.

The "Lernwelt"

The "Lernwelt" offers 440m? of flexible study and work space, with individual and group workstations, mobile furniture, walls, and monitors. It can accommodate up to 199 students.

Cafeteria "Sendepause"

The "Sendepause" is a meeting place for students and staff. Located in the heart of the HdM campus, it offers good coffee, cool drinks and delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Student housing

Student residences are located on or near campus, making it easy to reach lectures and meet fellow students. The small “student village” includes housing, pubs, and shared spaces.

Food & cafés

Enjoy meals and coffee at the campus cafeteria “Sendepause” or the University Mensa next door, and explore nearby cafés, restaurants and food trucks around the campus area.

Green spaces & nature

The campus is near parks and green areas like Rotwildpark, the Bärenseen, and the Bärenschlössle beer garden – perfect for jogging, walks, or a quick break in nature.

The University of Stuttgart is only a 10-minute walk from HdM, offering plenty of chances to meet other students and join campus activities.

Bars & student hangouts

Just steps from campus you’ll find student‑friendly pubs like the “Unithekle” and other casual spots where you can relax, socialise and get to know classmates after lectures.

Mobility & transport

Excellent public transport connections make it easy to travel from campus to Stuttgart city centre in about three S‑Bahn stops, while local buses and bike paths make daily life around campus convenient.
